SAIMSA stands for Southern African Inter-Municipal Sports Association. It is an organization that seeks to galvanize support and interaction between all the municipalities in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
The SAIMSA Games 2023 were initially scheduled to be held in Gaborone in 2020. Due to the COVID pandemic, the games had to be rescheduled to 2023.
The games are expected to boost tourism in Botswana, with over 5,000 participants expected from six SADC countries.
The excitement started building up in 2022 at the announcement of the new date for the postponed games.
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport, and Culture Honorable Tumiso Rakgare has been appointed the patron of the games.
Annually, SAIMSA runs the week-long sports meet under the banner of SAIMG, Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Games.
In this event, municipal employees and employers come together to compete in various sporting codes.
The sporting codes are determined by the participants and currently, ten sporting codes are popular among municipal employees and employers.
Like in any competition, performance is rewarded by the award of floating trophies and medals.
The 17th SAIMG shall be held in Gaborone, Botswana in the first week of September 2023.
We hope that the 2023 games shall be the best organized by SAIMSA.
